Fumigation is the most effective way to eliminate drywood termites, but it does require some preparation. To ensure the process is smooth, safe, and effective, please use this guide to get your home ready for our arrival.
1. People, Pets, and Plants
-
Relocation: Arrange for all occupants (including pets) to stay elsewhere for the duration of the treatment (usually 2–3 days).
-
Indoor Plants: Move all potted plants out of the house, including those on screened-in porches that will be under the tent.
-
Exterior Plants: Trim back any shrubs or tree branches at least 12–18 inches from the exterior walls of the home so our team can secure the tent to the ground.
2. Food and Medicine (The “Double-Bagging” Rule)
Any items intended for human or pet consumption must be removed from the home or sealed in specialized “Nylofume” bags. This includes:
-
Food in the pantry, fridge, and freezer (including spices and oils).
-
Pet food and treats.
-
Medicines, tobacco products, and vitamins.
-
Note: You do not need to bag unopened glass bottles or metal cans with the original manufacturer’s seal intact.
3. Interior Access & Airflow
-
Open All Doors: To ensure the fumigant reaches every corner, leave all interior doors, closets, and cabinets open.
-
Drawers: Open all dresser and kitchen drawers at least 4 inches.
-
Blinds and Drapes: Raise all blinds and open drapes to allow our technicians easy access to the windows.
-
Mattresses: If you have plastic-covered baby mattresses or waterproof covers, these must be unzipped or removed.
4. Exterior & Utilities
-
Gas Service: In most cases, the gas company must be scheduled to turn off the gas the day before and restore it after we clear the home. (We can help you coordinate this!)
-
Fences: If you have a locked gate, please ensure we have access or leave it unlocked for the day of the set-up.
-
Vehicles: Any vehicles left in the garage or driveway must have the windows rolled down or trunks left open to ensure no air is trapped.
What Happens After?
Once the treatment is finished, a Pest 911 specialist uses state-of-the-art clearing devices to test the air quality in every room. We will post a “Safe to Re-enter” notice on your front door. You can return home with the peace of mind that your termite problem is officially history!

Pest911 did an AMAZING job taking care of my lawn. We had trouble controlling weeds and getting that bright green shine we want in our lawn. Problem solved.
